RE: A little bit about "Bearings With Nipples"

did you pump the old grease out? on mine with the nipples the instruction book says pump till all the old grease is falling out and you see new grease coming out . I:VE had these for 10;s of thousands of miles never a problem . these are not bearing buddies . I had the same thought. Lots of opinions on this subject here. I personally like the Dexter EZ-Lube axles! Although there is no replacement for a good manual repack, the Dexter axles provide for longer intervals between repacks. I helped my neighbor repack his Dexter hubs after 50K miles. The bearings were in very good shape! He replaced the grease every year with the easy-lube bearings. As long as you follow the mfg. instructions, the Dexter bearings work great! -Lab http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/misc%20trailer%20pics/Picture200.jpg

RE: Fine Tuning Equal-i-zer

I'm in the same situation. Although I'me done for the year, it's on my "to do" list next year to tweak my EQ. I'm going to start my adding one more washer and maybe lowering the hitch one space. It's a great system, but it does take a little trial and error. Keep us posted! -Lab

RE: Colorado winter camping and hot springs

Hmmmm... That's a tough one. Something near Glenwood Springs? I personally like Steamboat Springs, but the roads can be a mess in the winter. Neat idea!! -Lab

CO Dog Leash Laws - My Reply

Unfortunately, a recent post about my last trip to Cherry Creek State Park had some of your replies deleted and the post eventually closed. Apparently, there were a misunderstanding about photos of my dog off leash and swimming. I never got the chance to explain and reply to the good info about Co State Park leash laws. I am not a scofflaw. I am a Colorado LEO and personally know a lot of the rangers in the parks and work closely with them. I am aware of the rules regulations and possible penaltys reegarding pets in State Parks. I had permission from a ranger to have my dog off leash for a short time and was directed to a particular beach, NOT the swim beach, to have my dog swim. Thanks for the rant and letting me explain. -Lab

RE: Cherry Creek State Park - Awesome fall camping - Pics!

Wow, great pictures. The leaves still are green and on the trees, why do you have to winterize so early? Looks like you could take a few more short trips and enjoy the beach with the dog. :B I wish, I wish, I wish! Unfortunately, our first freeze is expected this weekend and snow will start falling real soon!!! Please camp some for us! -Lab

RE: Hitch/Reciver Locks

I bought the "red thingy" at Wallmart for about $20 that included some keyed alike locks, can't remember the brand. I was curious about someone posting how "easy" it is to knock this one off, so I went out and tried it. A couple of good whacks with a 10# sledge did nothing to it. Well, chipped the paint... It was hard to get a good angle on it. I missed once and almost whacked my knee! Experiment successful! But I do like the one from Harbor Freight! -Lab

RE: Newbie looking for opinions on buying new Jayco TT

Can't say enough good things about the Jayco! Great trailer! We looked a a lot of trailers before we found "the one". Many had features we liked, but none in one package. The minute we saw the Jayco, we knew it was it! Haven't looked back since and when we go to RV shows, we still don't find one we like better! We have the bigger 29FBS, but get what suits you best! We've only had minor issues with the Jayco, loose screws and such. Only 2 issues that needed warranty work: A warped piece of siding, and a cracked microwave cabinet. All fixed without hassle. Good luck! -Lab

Cherry Creek State Park - Awesome fall camping - Pics!

Last trip of the year, so sad! Had a great time at Cherry Creek SP in Colorado last weekend. It's very close to home, but a great getaway! The fall leaves were amazing in color and the temps were just right, warm days, cool nights! We were in the Abeline loop site #9. A great spot! Backed to a grove of trees and was very private. Although the park was booked, the sites are spaced out well, so you don't intrude on neighbors. Took ol' Hershey to the lake and let him chase tennis balls for awhile. I think he had the best time of all! Makes it real handy having the exterior shower to hose him off after a day at the beach! This was out first tow with the new Titan. Awesome TV! My '04 was a supurb 1/2 ton TV, but the improvements apparent in the '08 make a great truck even better. The rear suspension is a tad softer, and some tweaking to my EQ hitch is in order, nothing major. The truck handled the load well considering we had 3 mountain bikes in the bed. The biggest thing I noticed with the new Titan is the available power above 2500 rpm. The '07+ Titans have variable valve timing (VVT) and greatly improves feel at speed. In my '04, the truck felt a little out of breath at speed, whereas the new one has a noticible bump in power. Mileage has also improved to 10mpg towing, 16 mpg non towing. Up from 9/14. Ahhh... now to winterize! -Lab http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek1031jpga.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek1034jpga.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek4006jpga.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek2024jpga.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek1126jpga.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek1109jpga.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/Cherry%20Creek%202%202008/CherryCreek1044jpga.jpg

RE: Hitch/Reciver Locks

I agree with the above posts that the bad guys will get it if they want it bad enough. As a LEO, I've seen a few RV thefts. A majority of them are from storage lots and most of those are break-ins, few actual thefts of the entire unit, but it does happen. My suggestion is to make your rig as unappealing a target as you can. These thefts are crimes of opportunity, so given the chance, make the bad guy move on to "easier" pickings. Having said all of that, I feel fortunate to be able to park my TT in the back yard. BUT, it's still behind a locked gate and I still use a sturdy coupler lock! -Lab http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/colochoclab/11-05-06013.jpg

RE: Camping with a dog . . . is it hard to do

Dogs are: -Inconvienent -Needy -Unwelcome in places -(your gripe here) After all the "trouble", I would never, ever, ever leave my buddy behind! He makes camping special, and fun! He's part of the family and it wouldn't be camping without him. If the location doesn't allow dogs, we just don't stay there. We may miss out on a few places, but it's no contest for having Hershey with us! "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." -Anonymous -Lab

RE: Thinking of getting Goodyear Silent Armor tires

I put Silent Armors on my '04 Titan it made a HUGE difference in towing performance! They wore like iron and I wish I could have taken them with me on my '08 Titan. I would not hesitate to put them on when my stock Goodyear SR-A'a! -Lab

RE: Prodigy Brake Controller Install

The only wires that need to be 12g are those feeding the brake controller and the one blue one that goes back to the brakes. The others (ground and signal) can be a lot lighter. I'd agree with that. Ditto. I did buy the pre-made connector from CW to replace my old connector when I bought my '08 Titan recently. Kinda weird, but the max I could get on the old Titan was 12. Now I can get 13. Better wires? Or just a better setup? Who knows, but it works awesome! -Lab

RE: dog suckling on pillow?

Hmmm... And I thought my goof Lab Hershey was only one who did this! Hershey, my 8yo Chocolate Lab (who is eating popcorn with the DW at the momemt!) loves to cuddle and suckle with this big, fuzzy green ball/ toy of his! We did adopt him at a young 6 weeks, but good Lord, he loves to eat! So weening was not a problem. Maybe the behavior is kinda like cats kneeding their paws when they are content? Treats all around! -Lab

RE: Problem with my Lab, need help/advice

This sounds a lot like our Hershey when he was on his pain meds. It turned out he was "halucinating" from the narcotics. Boy did he act strange! We only use non-narcotic pain meds and he has not had an episode. Good luck and keep us informed! -Lab
